AVALON, Australia, March 4, 2017 – Lockheed Martin is aiming to inspire thousands of young visitors to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with its Generation Beyond experience at Avalon 2017.

Located in the F-35 Expo tent, Generation Beyond is an innovative display that takes visitors on a journey from today, into the future and beyond with a range of interactive educational activities.

In Australia for the first time, the Generation Beyond experience uses Lockheed Martin’s technological advances in aviation technology and space exploration in an educational and enjoyable format to inspire the next generation of innovators, explorers, inventors and pioneers to pursue STEM careers.

The Generation Beyond experience at Avalon 2017 includes:

  • Lockheed Martin F-35 Lego model activity
  • 1/8th scale Orion habitat model
  • Virtual Reality Mars base camp experience
  • Share your #SpaceFace green-screen photo opportunity
  • Mission patch sticker kiosk

“At Lockheed Martin Australia, we believe it is everyone’s role to prepare, inspire and equip the students of today to build the future,” explained Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand Vice President and Chief Executive, Vince Di Pietro.

“Generation Beyond is a terrific and fun  example of Lockheed Martin’s ingenuity in using cutting-edge technology to encourage young people to explore STEM fields in an enjoyable, challenging and hands-on way that will stay with them for a lifetime,” he said.

“We make space travel possible; at Lockheed Martin we know first-hand how important it is to inspire students to become the next generation of engineers and space explorers by pursuing STEM paths,” said Lockheed Martin Space Systems International Regional Director, Rod Drury.

“The first person to walk on Mars is in school today. We want to help motivate as many parents and caregivers as possible to support STEM career paths for young people, which is why we have brought the Generation Beyond experience to Australia,” he concluded.

Generation Beyond is part of a much larger Lockheed Martin investment in local STEM initiatives, which include the company’s ongoing partnership with Australia’s National Youth Science Forum to promote STEM tertiary study opportunities and career paths for students across the country.

The Lockheed Martin Generation Beyond experience at the Avalon International Airshow 2017 is open to the public from Saturday 4 March to Sunday 5 March.
